LAWMA, KAI, LASTMA, Task Force, MOPOL, Military Personnel sustain operation from Volks to Iyana Iba axis
The joint enforcement operation along the Badagry Expressway median has entered its ninth day, with teams now working at the FESTAC Gate axis as part of the sustained exercise to clear illegal squatters, shanties, and makeshift structures from the Volks to Iyana Iba corridor. The operation, which is being carried out in line with the Governor’s directive on zero tolerance for illegal occupation of road medians, has seen LAWMA working alongside KAI, LASTMA, the Task Force, MOPOL, and military personnel to restore order along one of Lagos’s busiest corridors.
The enforcement team has been systematically dismantling illegal structures and evacuating refuse that had accumulated along the median, which had become a haven for squatters and a source of environmental degradation and security concerns. Earlier resistance by miscreants was swiftly brought under control by security personnel, with no casualty recorded, allowing the operation to continue without further incident. The teams remain on ground to ensure full clearance and sustainability of the exercise.
The sustained operation is part of the State Government’s broader commitment to reclaiming public infrastructure and ensuring that road medians are used for their intended purpose. The Governor’s directive, issued on Saturday, 27th June 2026, emphasized zero tolerance for encroachments on road medians, illegal parking, and indiscriminate activities along the Badagry Expressway. The ongoing clearance exercise is a direct response to growing concerns over traffic safety, environmental nuisance, public disorder, and security risks along the corridor.
The goal of the operation is not only clearance but also prevention of reoccupation, protection of public infrastructure, and restoration of order along this critical corridor. The enforcement teams will continue to work along the entire stretch of the Badagry Expressway until full compliance is achieved and the right-of-way is secured. Residents and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with enforcement agencies and to desist from any activities that compromise the integrity of public infrastructure.
The joint operation reflects the State Government’s holistic approach to environmental restoration and public safety, with all agencies working in synergy to ensure that the corridor is fully reclaimed and restored. The enforcement teams remain on ground to sustain the gains of the exercise and to ensure that illegal occupants do not return to the cleared areas.
