The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced an enforcement operation at Ago Palace Way Market today, 17 September 2026, following observations documented during a Project WISE monitoring exercise conducted on 15 September 2026. The operation addresses both illegal trading activities and cart pusher operations within the market area.

During the monitoring exercise, officers observed traders displaying and selling goods along the road and in other unauthorised locations. Cart pushers were also found operating in the area, with traders engaging them to evacuate waste generated by their businesses. The monitoring report identified indiscriminate dumping, obstruction of pedestrian walkways, and interference with traffic flow associated with these activities.

The Authority noted that removing waste from a stall does not resolve the problem when it is improperly disposed of elsewhere. Roadside trading and improper waste evacuation create connected problems that affect other road users, residents, and businesses in the area. The enforcement operation is therefore aimed at addressing both the trading and waste disposal issues within the market corridor.

LAWMA urged traders to operate in authorised locations, keep roads and walkways unobstructed, and use their assigned PSP operators for waste collection. The Authority emphasised that clearing the area is only the immediate task; sustained monitoring is required to keep it clear, prevent renewed dumping, and ensure proper waste collection in the long term.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to maintain environmental order and sanitation standards across Lagos. Residents and traders are encouraged to cooperate with enforcement teams and to dispose of waste responsibly through approved channels.
