The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced a special waste collection intervention in communities affected by the recent withdrawal of selected Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators. The intervention, which began on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, is aimed at bridging service gaps and sustaining essential waste collection services in the affected areas.

Day One – Wednesday, 7 October 2026

The intervention commenced in Oke-Ira, Ojodu, and Ramoni Ward in Itire-Ikate LCDA, with waste evacuation and community sensitisation activities. In Oke-Ira/Powerline, Ojodu, the operation covered Oladipo Banjo Street, where waste evacuation commenced. In Ramoni Ward, Itire-Ikate LCDA, the intervention covered Omodunni Street, part of Salami Oke Street, parts of Gasper and Durojaiye Streets, and parts of Ashimowu and Odubiyi Streets. Community advocacy and sensitisation were conducted alongside the evacuation exercise.

Day Two – Thursday, 8 October 2026

Operations continued in both locations, with Oladipo Banjo Street completed and further streets covered in Ramoni Ward. In Oke-Ira/Powerline, Ojodu, Oladipo Banjo Street was completed, including 15 remaining buildings, while Olu Street received additional premises servicing. In Ramoni Ward, Itire-Ikate LCDA, the intervention covered Adeosun Street, part of Ashimowu Street, Adekoya Street, and part of Odubiyi Street.

Day Three – Friday, 9 October 2026

The intervention extended to Igbogbo-Baiyeku, while waste collection and public sensitisation continued along the Oke-Ira/Powerline route. In Igbogbo-Baiyeku, Abosan, Irepodun Community, Olu-Odo, the operation covered Faniyi Street, Arulogun Olaseni Street, Olawale Balogun Street, Arch. Jide Street, Ayinde Odusanya Street, and Alhaja Siyanbola Street, with 32 buildings serviced. In Oke-Ira/Powerline, Ojodu, the intervention covered Jacob Sonola Street, which was completed, Aderemi Adeboye Street, and part of Ajayi Street. Community advocacy and sensitisation were also conducted.

The Agency noted that the intervention was necessitated by the withdrawal of PSP licences from selected operators during the week, which had created service gaps in the affected communities. LAWMA stated that it would sustain direct interventions and follow-up operations to improve waste collection coverage in the affected areas until a permanent arrangement is in place.

Residents in the affected communities have been urged to cooperate with LAWMA teams during the intervention and to keep their waste properly containerised. The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to achieving a cleaner Lagos through responsive service delivery, assuring residents that no community would be left behind in the pursuit of sustainable waste management.
