LAWMA Arrests Offenders Attempting to Re-Dump at Freshly Cleared Car Wash Bus Stop, Iyana Oworo

Suspects apprehended at night while returning to a location cleared over the past two days

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested offenders who were caught attempting to re-dump waste around the Car Wash Bus Stop area at Iyana Oworo. The suspects were apprehended at night, just days after the Agency completed a cleanup exercise at the same location.

According to the Agency, the offenders were arrested while trying to return waste to a spot that had been cleared over the preceding two days. The incident highlights the challenge of sustaining environmental gains in areas where indiscriminate dumping has become habitual, and it reinforces the need for continued monitoring and enforcement.

The Agency noted that the arrest demonstrates why enforcement operations must go beyond clearing. Clearing an area without addressing the behaviour that produced the waste simply invites a repeat of the problem. The suspects are being processed in line with the State’s environmental protection laws.

LAWMA reiterated that sustained vigilance remains essential to protecting the gains of its cleanup operations across the state. The Agency warned that anyone caught dumping waste at unauthorised locations, particularly at sites that have just been cleared, will face the full weight of the law.

Residents and business owners around the Car Wash Bus Stop area and other parts of the state are urged to patronise approved PSP operators and to dispose of waste responsibly. The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos.
