Babajide Fadoju

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has intensified its cleanup operations across the State, clearing multiple environmental blackspots in a sustained offensive that has touched every corridor of the metropolis. From the Kodesoh axis to Fadeyi, from Epe to Berger, sanitation crews have been deployed to evacuate refuse and restore dignity to public spaces, medians, bus stops, and major junctions that had long been plagued by indiscriminate waste disposal.

In the Ikeja and Surulere axis, M44 led a comprehensive cleanup of the Kodesoh median, Lasuth Hospital Gate 1, Medical Road spots one and two, Oba Akinjobi Street junction, and the Kodesoh underbridge. The operation restored these busy corridors to cleanliness, removing accumulated waste that had defaced the environment and posed health risks to residents and commuters. MO37 cleared Taiwo Street along Kudirat Abiola Way, ensuring that one of Lagos’s busiest thoroughfares was fully restored.

In the Fadeyi axis, evacuation operations were conducted at Kadiri Street junction and the Fadeyi bin location, clearing refuse that had accumulated at these points. The Apongbon median received significant attention, with sanitation crews clearing the first, second, and third spots, ensuring that this busy commercial corridor was fully restored. The Lagos City Center tapa also underwent a comprehensive before, during, and after evacuation exercise.

In the Epe corridor, LAWMA crews cleared Central Mosque Itaopo, Paramount Junction, and Ayetoro media beside Total Energies filling station, while Ikorodu Garage Market on Epe Marina Road was also fully evacuated. These operations have brought relief to communities along the Epe axis, where waste accumulation had become a major challenge.

The Berger axis witnessed ongoing evacuation at Interstate Park and Ojodu Berger underbridge, in collaboration with the Lagos State Public Works Corporation. The operations also covered the outward median opposite First Access Bank, opposite Gtco, opposite Sterling Bank spots one and two, and opposite Zenith Bank, all of which were cleared of accumulated refuse. Bulk loading operations also continued at the Sura Market bin location with M011.

The sustained operations across these locations reflect LAWMA’s unwavering commitment to environmental cleanliness and public health. The Authority continues to deploy resources across the State, ensuring that no community is left behind in the pursuit of a cleaner Lagos. Residents are encouraged to support these efforts by patronising approved PSP operators and avoiding indiscriminate waste disposal, as environmental cleanliness remains a shared responsibility that requires the cooperation of all stakeholders.

With additional resources being deployed across the State, including the ongoing construction of Transfer Loading Stations and the expected arrival of Compressed Natural Gas compactor trucks, LAWMA is steadily strengthening its capacity to deliver efficient and effective waste evacuation services across Lagos. The Authority remains committed to ensuring that every blackspot is cleared and that Lagos continues its march toward a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future.
