… LAWMA, KAI, Nigeria Police, Military Personnel collaborate to restore order along Kosofe corridor

A joint monitoring and enforcement operation was carried out on Sunday, 9th August 2026, at Ketu Bus Stop, Ile Ile, and Mile 12 in the Kosofe Local Government Area, as the Lagos State Government intensified efforts to dislodge illegal traders and restore sanity to the busy commercial corridor. The operation, which was conducted in collaboration with officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), the Nigeria Police Force, Military Personnel, and the LAWMA Project WISE Team, targeted illegal traders occupying walkways and other unauthorised spaces.
During the exercise, traders who had turned pedestrian walkways and road shoulders into makeshift markets were dislodged, while efforts were made to ensure that the affected areas were cleared and made accessible to pedestrians and other road users. The operation also addressed the indiscriminate dumping of waste that had defaced the environment, posing serious public health risks and obstructing the free flow of traffic along the busy corridor.
The joint operation served as a deterrent to further encroachment and indiscriminate activities within the area, in line with the directives of the Lagos State Government to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe environment across the State. The enforcement team maintained a strong presence in the area to prevent immediate reoccupation by illegal traders, ensuring that the gains of the exercise were sustained.
The exercise was successfully carried out with the combined efforts of all participating agencies, reflecting the State Government’s commitment to reclaiming public spaces and ensuring that all residents and businesses comply with environmental and safety regulations. The Authority reiterated that similar enforcement operations would continue across other parts of the State where illegal trading and encroachment persist.
Residents and traders have been urged to patronise designated markets and avoid the use of walkways, medians, and other public spaces for trading or storage of goods. The State Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and more orderly Lagos for all residents.
