Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, alongside the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, LAWMA Managing Director, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, and other Executive Council members, were on the ground across various parts of Lagos on Saturday as the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise took place.

The exercise, which saw active participation from residents, community leaders, and market associations, was marked by sweeping cleanup operations, drainage clearing, and waste evacuation across multiple blackspots in the State.

In the Badagry Expressway corridor, ongoing evacuation operations were conducted at Ile Oba bus stop in Ijanikin, opposite Otto Ijanikin Primary Health Centre by Otto Awori LCDA, while the Agbara bin location also received attention. Arrival Park Berger was another focal point of the exercise, with sanitation crews working to clear accumulated waste. Ilaje by pedestrian bridge was cleared, while Oyetubo Street, Olowu Bus Stop, Oba Akinjobi Junction, and Lasuth Gate were also fully restored to cleanliness.

In the Oniru and Victoria Island axis, the waste along Oniru inward median was cleared, while the bin at the location was filled up and heading to the dump site. The Airport underbridge was also cleared, while work continued at Marine Beach bin location and ongoing work at Daleko bridge. In the Surulere axis, extensive cleanup operations were conducted at Sura Bin, Lagos City Center, Sura Loop, and Ilasan, all of which were fully restored to cleanliness.

The presence of the Governor, the Commissioner, and the LAWMA MD at the exercise underscores the government’s commitment to environmental cleanliness and the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a cleaner Lagos. Residents were encouraged to participate actively by cleaning their homes, surroundings, drainage channels, markets, and public spaces within their communities.

The Lagos State Government urged all residents, community leaders, market associations, and business operators to support the exercise and contribute their quota towards building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Lagos. The monthly sanitation exercise, which has been reinstated under the present administration, has recorded massive public participation and is part of the government’s broader strategy to transition Lagos into a zero-waste economy.
