The joint enforcement operation along the Badagry Expressway median entered its 11th day on Wednesday, with the team advancing to the Mile 2 and Agboju axis as part of the sustained exercise to clear illegal squatters, shanties, makeshift structures, and unauthorised trading points from the median. The operation, which is being carried out in line with the Governor’s directive on zero tolerance for illegal occupation of road medians, has seen a coordinated effort by multiple agencies to restore order along one of Lagos’s most critical transport corridors.
In a significant development, cart pushers found operating illegally along the corridor are being arrested, and their carts are being seized as part of efforts to enforce compliance and deter further violations. The seizure of carts, which had become a common sight along the expressway, is aimed at eliminating the environmental nuisance and safety hazards posed by the indiscriminate movement and dumping of waste along the median. The enforcement team has maintained that all illegal activities along the corridor will be met with the full weight of the law.
The operation is being carried out jointly by the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Task Force, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), MOPOL, and military personnel. The collaboration reflects the State Government’s holistic approach to environmental restoration and public safety, with all agencies working in synergy to ensure that the corridor is fully reclaimed and restored. The teams remain on ground to ensure full clearance and prevent reoccupation.
The sustained operation is part of the State Government’s broader commitment to reclaiming public infrastructure and ensuring that road medians are used for their intended purpose. The Governor’s directive, issued on Saturday, 27th June 2026, emphasized zero tolerance for encroachments on road medians, illegal parking, and indiscriminate activities along the Badagry Expressway. The ongoing clearance exercise is a direct response to growing concerns over traffic safety, environmental nuisance, public disorder, and security risks along the corridor.
The goal of the operation is not only clearance but also prevention of reoccupation, protection of public infrastructure, and restoration of order along this critical corridor. The enforcement teams will continue to work along the entire stretch of the Badagry Expressway until full compliance is achieved and the right-of-way is secured. Residents and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with enforcement agencies and to desist from any activities that compromise the integrity of public infrastructure.
