LAWMA, KAI, LASTMA, Task Force, RRS, MOPOL, Military Personnel sustain operation in line with Governor’s directive on zero tolerance for encroachments

The joint enforcement operation to clear all illegal squatters, shanties, and makeshift structures along the Alakija, Agboju, and Mazamaza axis of the Badagry Expressway has continued, as the Lagos State Government maintains its zero-tolerance stance on encroachments on road medians. The operation, which commenced following the Governor’s directive issued on Saturday, 27th June 2026, has seen the demolition of illegal structures, evacuation of accumulated waste, and sustained efforts to prevent reoccupation of cleared areas.
The exercise, which has been ongoing for several weeks, is being carried out jointly by the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), the Task Force, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), the Mobile Police (Mopol), and Military Personnel. The multi-agency collaboration reflects the State Government’s comprehensive approach to restoring environmental order, safeguarding public infrastructure, and ensuring that the median remains free from illegal trading activities, unauthorised settlements, and indiscriminate waste disposal.
The operation, which has now entered its 44th day, has been described as one of the most sustained enforcement exercises on the Badagry Expressway corridor. The Governor’s directive, issued on 27th June, emphasized the need to reclaim public spaces and eliminate the security and environmental hazards associated with the illegal occupation of road medians. The team has continued to advance along the corridor, clearing illegal structures and ensuring that the right-of-way is restored for its intended public use.
The Authority has reiterated that the exercise is not a one-off event but a sustained operation aimed at full clearance and prevention of reoccupation. The teams remain on ground to ensure that the gains of the exercise are sustained and that illegal occupants do not return to the cleared areas. The operation is expected to continue until the entire corridor is completely cleared and measures are firmly established to sustain the progress achieved.
Residents and stakeholders have been urged to cooperate with enforcement agencies and to desist from any activities that compromise the integrity of public infrastructure. The State Government has assured that the operation will be extended to other parts of the State where similar encroachments exist, as part of the broader commitment to maintaining a cleaner, safer, and more orderly Lagos.
