LAWMA MD: Upgrades to improve truck access, reduce turnaround time, enhance waste disposal capacity

The Lagos State Government has officially commissioned the rehabilitated Road E and new disposal platforms at the Olusosun Disposal Facility, marking another important milestone in strengthening the State’s waste management infrastructure. The project, which was completed by Zoomlion Nigeria Limited, is expected to significantly improve operational efficiency at the facility, which serves as one of Lagos’s primary waste disposal sites.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, explained that the rehabilitated road and upgraded disposal platforms would improve truck access, increase operational efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and enhance waste disposal capacity in the immediate term. He noted that the improvements are particularly important as the State prepares for the planned closure of the Olusosun Disposal Facility.
Dr. Gbadegesin disclosed that the planned closure of the facility will follow the completion, over the coming months, of the Transfer Loading Station (TLS) and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) currently under construction by Zoomlion Nigeria Limited. Together, these investments, he said, will support Lagos’s transition from landfill-dependent waste disposal to a more efficient, resource recovery-driven waste management system, aligning with the State’s circular economy objectives.
The LAWMA MD commended Zoomlion Nigeria Limited for rehabilitating Road E as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, and appreciated the Authority’s Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators and other stakeholders whose continued partnership is essential to the success of the State’s waste management reforms. He described the project as a reflection of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to investing in the infrastructure needed to deliver cleaner, more reliable environmental services for Lagosians.
Dr. Gbadegesin reaffirmed the Authority’s focus on building a modern, efficient, and sustainable waste management system that serves the needs of a growing megacity, assuring residents that the State Government remains committed to ensuring that every part of Lagos enjoys a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment.
