… Enforcement operation followed by deep cleaning of Ago Palace Way as Agency moves to sustain environmental order
The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Project WISE Team, in collaboration with officials of the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), on Monday, 12 October 2026, carried out an enforcement operation around Festac, Mile 2, and Ago Palace Way to arrest illegal street traders operating in unauthorised locations. The operation was aimed at curbing illegal street trading, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and ensuring compliance with Lagos State environmental regulations.

According to the Agency, unruly illegal traders on Ago Palace Way resisted enforcement efforts and fought to continue their occupation and destruction of public infrastructure during a follow-up monitoring exercise by LAWMA and KAI operatives. The team moved through the identified areas to apprehend offenders and discourage activities that contribute to environmental nuisance and obstruction of public spaces. The exercise forms part of LAWMA’s ongoing efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier Lagos.

The following persons were arrested during the operation: Joy Opeyemi, Abigail Manga, Chinasa Eze, Saika Taira, AbdulRasheed Elinu, Charles Nwango, Mustapha Abubakar, Aliyu Garba, Kazinu Umar, Moses Idara, Ahmed Yinusa, Yusuf Usman, and Amaka Chukunju. The suspects were taken into custody for further processing and prosecution in line with the State’s environmental laws.
In a related development, LAWMA has commenced deep cleaning of Ago Palace Way following the enforcement and demolition exercise. The deep cleaning operation is being carried out across the first and second phases of the road, with 38 sweepers deployed per phase. The sweepers are removing silt, litter along the verges and median, and any debris left over from the previous day’s enforcement and demolition exercise. The Agency stated that the objective is to ensure a thorough job that restores the corridor to a clean and orderly state.

The deep cleaning exercise followed the visit of the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, to the area on Sunday. The Agency noted that the operation would be sustained until the entire stretch of Ago Palace Way is fully cleaned and cleared of all debris. Residents and traders are urged to cooperate with the cleaning and enforcement teams and to operate only in authorised locations.

LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining enforcement operations and deep cleaning exercises across the state, warning that individuals who violate environmental laws and obstruct public spaces would face the full weight of the law.
