Suspect arrested at Oworonsoki, taken to Oshodi Task Force for prosecution as enforcement against illegal waste handlers intensifies

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) Waste Investigation, Surveillance and Enforcement team has apprehended a cart pusher for collecting waste illegally along the Oworonsoki axis, near the Third Mainland Bridge. The suspect was arrested on Friday, September 4, 2026, while engaging in unauthorised waste collection activities in the area.

The enforcement team, acting on intelligence reports and routine monitoring, intercepted the cart pusher who had been operating without authorisation, collecting waste from residents and businesses in the area. The suspect was immediately taken to the Oshodi Task Force Office for further processing and prosecution, in line with the environmental protection laws of Lagos State.
The arrest is part of LAWMA’s sustained enforcement campaign against illegal cart pushers and individuals who engage in indiscriminate waste collection and dumping. The Authority has reiterated that only registered and approved waste collectors are permitted to operate in the State, warning that those who flout the regulations will be arrested and prosecuted.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, reaffirmed the Authority’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal waste handling activities, stating that enforcement operations would continue across all parts of the State. He urged residents to patronise only approved PSP operators and to report any illegal waste collection or dumping activities in their communities.
