The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has commenced special intervention services along the Lekki Toll Gate 1 to Ajah corridor, as part of its sustained efforts to restore environmental order and improve the aesthetics of one of the state’s busiest expressways.

The intervention covers bulk waste evacuation, silt and sand collection, and vegetal control across the affected stretch.

According to the Agency, the assignment has been divided into two phases.

The first phase covers the stretch from Lekki Toll Gate to the Lekki Second Gate, while the second phase extends from the Second Toll Gate to Ajah. The work is expected to run for a duration of seven days.

To ensure efficient delivery, the Agency has deployed a range of equipment to the corridor, including a skid loader (bobcat), one single dino, three 24 CBM compactors, and one 12 CBM compactor. A total of 100 labourers have also been deployed to support the operation across both phases.

The intervention is designed to address the accumulation of waste, silt, and overgrown vegetation along the expressway, which has contributed to environmental nuisance and obstructed the free flow of traffic in some sections. The Agency noted that the operation would improve the visual appeal of the corridor while supporting drainage capacity and reducing environmental hazards.

Beyond the immediate cleanup, LAWMA disclosed that a sustainability plan has been put in place to prevent a recurrence of indiscriminate dumping along the corridor.

This includes the deployment of policing personnel to monitor the area and discourage further waste disposal at unauthorised locations.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intervention programmes across the state’s major corridors, urging residents and business owners along the Lekki-Ajah axis to cooperate with the teams and to patronise approved PSP operators for waste collection.
